Roofing FAQs
Clearly written proposals that are detailed and broken down into separate line items are a good sign the contractor is being thorough and has prepared an accurate estimate. If one estimate seems much lower than the others and sounds too good to be true, it probably is: below-cost bids often come from contractors who are uninsured and do substandard work. If an estimate is confusing, ask the contractor to break it down into items you can understand.
If the contract didn't specify new flashing, it wasn't in the original scope of work. That's why we spell everything out in our proposals, and when we re-flash brick chimneys, brick walls and stucco walls we use .032 aluminum flashing.
Some manufacturers and building codes allow asphalt shingles on slopes as low as 2:12, but the NRCA doesn't recommend shingles on slopes under 4:12. Shingle roofs shed water and rely on gravity and slope to drain it. For low-slope and flat roofs, a modified rubber roof or a tapered system that adds slope is usually the better choice.
Workers' comp covers employees injured on your property; general liability covers damage to people or property. Jack C. Wilson Roofing Co. is licensed, bonded and insured.
At least once a year, and especially after severe weather like storms and high winds.
It depends on the material, the quality of the installation, the climate and maintenance, but most roofs last between 15 and 25 years.
